Description	:	Dorothy Gray was the daughter of Samuel Gray and Deborah Tucker Church. According to "Mayflower Births and Deaths, Vol. 1 and 2," she was born 14 Jan 1704 in Little Compton, Newport County, Colony of Rhode Island. However, the record for United Congregational Church of Little Compton, available though "Rhode Island, Vital Extracts, 1639 - 1899," shows that she was born 30 Jun 1706. For now, I will leave the Mayflower date, because it would otherwise conflict with the birth date for Joseph Gray. According to "Mayflower Births and Deaths, Vol. 1 and 2," she was born 14 Jan 1704 in Little Compton, Newport County, Colony of Rhode Island. This requires further research, as I don't know the source of the Mayflower birth date for Dorothy. On 31 Mar 1722, in Bristol, Plymouth County, Colony of Massachusetts (later Bristol, Bristol County, Rhode Island), Dorothy and Samuel Throop (b. 25 Apr 1700 in Bristol) declared their intention to marry. They were married less than a month later, on 23 May 1722, and settled in Bristol. They had (that I've been able to find) three children, born in Bristol: Samuel (b. 17 Jan 1725), Mary (b. 17 Jul 1726) and Macey (b. 29 Jan 1727). The family later removed to Lebanon, New London County, Colony of Connecticut. Samuel and Mary Throop are listed in the Barbour Collection of Vital Records for Lebanon, as having been born of Samuel and Dorothy Throop, followed by an empty set of brackets. In my experience, the empty brackets were used to indicate that the birth date was unknown, because the child was born elsewhere. Tragedy struck while Dorothy was pregnant with Macey. Samuel died on 28 November 1726, just two months before Macey was born, and Dorothy was left to raise her three children on her own. However, she soon caught the eye of Ebenezer Hyde, whom she married on 25 Feb 1729 in Lebanon. (It was recorded using the dual Julian/Gregorian calendar date Feb. 25, 1728/9, because the date fell between January 1st and March 25th, the latter being the start of the New Year on the Julian calendar. The modern Gregorian calendar date is thus 25 Feb 1729.) Dorothy and Ebenezer were the parents of eight children, all recorded as having been born in Lebanon: William (b. 8 Apr 1730), Ignatius (b. 30 Apr 1731; d. 10 Jun 1731), Ebenezer (b. 10 Sep 1732), Deborah (b. 16 Oct 1734), Elizabeth (b. 13 Oct 1736; died before 14 Mar 1740), Ignatius (b. 28 Apr 1738), Elizabeth (b. 14 Mar 1740) and Submit (b. 24 Nov 1743). Dorothy was said to have died sometime in 1743. It's possible that she died of complications from childbirth following the birth of Submit. Her date of death is unrecorded, and I have done a thorough search of FindaGrave, to no avail. However, the family lived in Lebanon, and were all buried in the Old Cemetery. Because Dorothy was the daughter of Deborah Tucker Church, she was a descendant of Mayflower Passenger Richard Warren: 1. Richard Warren (Mayflower) and Elizabeth Walker 2. Elizabeth Warren and Richard Church 3. Joseph Church and Mary Tucker 4. Deborah Church and Samuel Gray 5. Dorothy Gray Therefore, those who can prove descent from Dorothy Gray---or from her mother, Deborah Tucker Church---are eligible to to join the General Society of Mayflower Descendants (themayflowersociety.org).
