Ever since the church at Java, South Dakota, disbanded, Dorothy was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ at Eureka. She died Sunday, November 09, 1997, in the Eureka Community Hospital at the age of 86. She was born January 11, 1911, at the home of her parents, Elizabeth Goehring and Andreas A. Huber on their farm southwest of Artas, in Campbell County. She attended rural school in that area. Following her schooling, she helped on her parents farm. On October 13, 1929, Dorothy and Fred C. Biel were married at Artas. They made their home on the farm of Fred's family seven miles north of Java, where they lived and farmed until retiring into Java in 1965. Fred died March 29, 1976. Dorothy continued to live at Java, moving to the Lakeview Apartments at Eureka, in 1990. Dorothy belonged to a sewing club at Java. Her hobbies included crocheting, quilting, gardening and cooking. Following their retirement, Dorothy and Fred enjoyed fishing. Surviving are two sons, Earl of Mobridge, and Lowell of Fargo, North Dakota; a daughter, Allegra (Victor) Hirsch of Eureka; a sister, Susan Gisi of Eureka; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, three sisters, a daughter-in-law, and her parents. Funeral services for Dorothy Biel were Thursday, at 10:30 a.m. from St. Paul's United Church of Christ at Eureka, with Reverend Dianne Rood Kiesz officiating. Graveside committal rites were at 1:30 p.m. in the Java United Church of Christ Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home of Bowdle in charge of arrangements.
