Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. The Huebl Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. She died Friday at St. Luke's Hospital. Visitation will be from noon Monday until 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Huebl Chapel and from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church. The casket will not be opened after the service. The family will meet at the church at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. The family prefers memorials. Dorothy Irene DeVries was born Jan. 14, 1906, at Oudebiletzyl, Holland. She came to the U.S. with her family in 1910 and settled near Frankfort. They later moved to Ashton. She graduated from Central High School and earned her teaching degree at Northern Normal. She taught rural school near Warner and married Sieger W. Demmers Nov. 19, 1927, at Aberdeen. She returned to Northern where she earned her masters degree and then taught in the Aberdeen school system until her retirement in 1970. She also taught summer sessions at Northern State College. Mrs. Demmers was active in conducting teachers institutes and workshops in creative writing and remedial reading. She also worked on remedial reading handbooks for the Aberdeen City Schools and the S.D. Dept. of Public Instruction. She was a member of the First Farmers Friendship Tour to Europe. Mrs. Demmers was a member of the International Reading Assn., CEC, American Assn. for University Women, Assn. for Childhood Education, Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Candy Striper counselor for St. Luke's Hospital, SDEA, NEA, Aberdeen Teachers Assn., National Retired Teachers Assn., S.D. Arts Council and was a life member of the PTA. Survivors include her husband, one son, Delvin, Redfield; one brother, Peter DeVries; Aberdeen; and five grandchildren. Pallbearers were Dick Baumann, Melvin Hare, Dawn Nerison, Elmer Nilsson, Siger Bies and Jay Jansen, all of Aberdeen. Jude Borgesen was the organist and Larry Arndt was the soloist. Ushers were Fred Geranen and Al Ehrmann.
