Description	:	Hastings resident Dorothy Jean "D. J." Rath, 88, passed away Thursday July 23, 2009 at her home. No services will be held as were her wishes. The DeWitt Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Hastings are in charge of arrangements. No services will be held as were her wishes. The DeWitt Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Hastings are in charge of arrangements. Dorothy Jean Rath was born November 20, 1920 in Lakeview, Oregon the youngest of five daughters of George and Dolly (Woodcock) Johnson. After graduating from Lakeview High School, she attended the University of Oregon on the Bernard Daly Scholarship Fund and received a BS in Business Administration. While at the University, she was affiliated with Alpha Gamma Delta sorority and was Secretary of the 1942 Senior Class. Her education and love of accounting led her to employment with Bonneville Power in Portland, Oregon and later with Shell Chemical in San Francisco, California. In 1945 she married William F Rath of Sutton, Nebraska. They lived in Lakeview, Oregon for a few years after he was discharged from the Navy, and then moved in 1950 to the Sutton area where they engaged in farming. She was employed by Midwest Irrigation in Henderson, Nebraska for many years. She was employed for a few years by Phillip G Johnson (CPA firm in Hastings). After her husband's death in 1977, D. J. moved to Hastings. Her civic activities included serving on the Board of Directors of Midwest Irrigation, South Central Community Mental Health, Regency Retirement Residence, Advisory committee for the Adams County Mental Health and the Adams County YWCA where she was also the bookkeeper for many years. Survivors include three daughters, Judy A Tracy of Sutton, Nebraska, Jean K Nelson of South Dakota and Mary E Rath of Hastings; eight grandchildren and many great grandchildren; one niece and a host of friends.
