She was born on February 17, 1926, the daughter of Glen Virgil and Marjorie Louella Root. On June 20, 1950 she married Charles A. Eckhardt. She will be fondly remembered for her work with students of all ages, and as a member/leader of 4H in sewing and cooking. She was born on February 17, 1926, the daughter of Glen Virgil and Marjorie Louella Root. On June 20, 1950 she married Charles A. Eckhardt. She will be fondly remembered for her work with students of all ages, and as a member/leader of 4H in sewing and cooking. Dorothy Jean graduated from Wayne School and attended Wilmington College for 2 years after which she worked at Armco Steel, then Oglesby Bank until she married Charles. Born a Quaker she always thought of others before herself. She was a member of the Pythian Sisters and served as their secretary for many years. Until last year, she was an active member of the West Elkton Underground Railroad group that studied the history of this area. She is survived by her husband, Charles, her children, William (Joan) Eckhardt and Margaret (Roger) Overholts; six grandchildren; and two sisters, Helen Joan Weber and Marjorie Louella (Gene) Phares. She was preceded in death by her brother, Daryl K. Root; brother-in-law, Francis Weber; and grandson, Brian A. Weber. Services will be 11:00 AM Thursday at the Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home with Reverend Paul Hayes officiating followed by interment at Butler County Memorial Park.
