Dorothy was born Oct. 24, 1936, in Spalding, Nebraska to Paul and Martha (Pfeifer) Gilroy. Survivors are: husband, James Stromp of Spalding, Nebraska; sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis Stromp and Donna of Greeley, Nebraska, Dan Stromp and Shelly of Elkhorn, Nebraska and Steve Stromp and Slavka of Elkhorn, Nebraska; daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and John Martin of Lincoln, Nebraska; brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Irene Gilroy; grandsons, Andrew, Adam, Derek and Brandon Stromp and Jackson Martin; granddaughters, Kayla Esch, Megan, Morgan, Allison and Emma Stromp and Addison Martin; step grandson, Garret Buss; parent-in-laws, Jerry and Heidi Stromp, Dick and Mary Stromp and Rosemary Shirley and a host of friends and relatives. Driven by a strong will to share precious moments with loved ones, Dorothy defied the odds and surpassed several prognoses before her death. Dorothy grew up on a farm near Spalding, graduating from Spalding Academy in 1954. Dorothy and James Stromp were married on Aug. 20, 1955 at St. Michael's Church, Spalding, Nebraska. They lived on their family farm west of Spalding, Nebraska. Dorothy put family first every single day. She adored her 12 grandchildren and delighted in their achievements. Dorothy attended The University of Nebraska-Kearney and Central Community College. She taught school at District 10 in 1955. Other roles include a religious education catechist, bloodmobile chairperson, member of Saint Anne's Altar Society and the Spalding Booster Club. She opened and operated "Our Place," a youth center from 1989 through 2004. Dorothy connected with friends through her inner strength, independent spirit and conversational capacities. Dorothy had a passion for the youth. Guided by love and acceptance, she served as a positive influence and mentor to so many. She saw and encouraged the good in others. Dorothy will be remembered as someone who was as generous with her heart as she was with her time. Dorothy was also preceded in death by: parents, Paul and Martha Gilroy and daughter, Deborah Stromp.
