Description	:	Dorothy Louise Gadberry, age 83, of Oroville, passed away on July 13, 2001 at North Valley Hospital in Tonasket, due to heart and respiratory complications. Dorothy was born April 19, 1918, in Indian Head, Saskatchewan, to Marie Karoline (Jensen) and Niels Marius Nielson, immigrants from Denmark. In 1920, her family moved to Cawston, B.C., where as a young girl she attended school and helped her family in the apple orchard they owned. Dorothy was born April 19, 1918, in Indian Head, Saskatchewan, to Marie Karoline (Jensen) and Niels Marius Nielson, immigrants from Denmark. In 1920, her family moved to Cawston, B.C., where as a young girl she attended school and helped her family in the apple orchard they owned. In the late 30s, following the depression years, there was little opportunity for idle time and so Dorothy worked in the packing sheds in Cawston and also worked as housekeeper in private homes in Penticton. In 1938, at a dance in Cawston, Dorothy fell in love with a young man from Loomis and on May 26, 1939, Dorothy married Alonzo (Lon) Franklin Gadberry. They lived in Loomis, for most of their early years of marriage with a few summers spent living on several lookouts in the Okanogan National Forest working for the U.S. Forest Service. During those summers on lookouts, Dorothy was also raising her two little boys, Marion, born in 1940 and Gene, born in 1941. Times were hard and Dorothy and Lon did what they could to raise their small family. In 1945, they added a daughter, Nancy, to their family. 1946 brought them to Oroville when Lon began work with the Okanogan P.U.D. retiring in 1973. Dorothy was a homemaker and occasionally worked in the apple packing plants. Oroville became their home for the rest of their days. Here, Dorothy and Lon built a house, raised their family, enjoying gardening, camping, traveling and visits from their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On May 26, 1999, Dorothy and Lon celebrated their 60th anniversary. Following Lon's death on Aug. 26, 1999, Dorothy continued to live in the house that had been theirs for most of their years together. Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a gift for growing flowers and flowers grow in her garden still. She was a longtime member of Rebekahs, a member of the Oroville Grange and a director of the Mt. View Cemetery Association in Loomis. She instilled in her family a strong work ethic, independence and sense of family. Dorothy is survived by two sons, Marion and his wife, Jan of Oroville, Gene and his wife, Jeanie of Spokane; one daughter, Nancy Peterson and her husband, Dennis of Bellevue; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lon Gadberry in 1999 and sisters, Pauline Snow, Marie Courney, Sine Biollo and brother Albert Nielson. Services will be held Saturday, July 21, 2001 at 2 p.m. at Bergh Funeral Home in Oroville with members of the family officiating. Memorials may be made to Oroville Ambulance Fund, Streetscape Fund, or Mt. View Cemetery Association in Loomis.
