Description	:	SHERMAN, DOROTHY LUCILLE—Dorothy Lucille Sherman was born on March 27, 1919, to LeRoy McFarland and Sylvia (Andrews) McFarland, in Bloomfield, and passed away on May 24, 1999, at the Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva, at the age of 80 years, 1 month and 27 days. Read More	SHERMAN, DOROTHY LUCILLE—Dorothy Lucille Sherman was born on March 27, 1919, to LeRoy McFarland and Sylvia (Andrews) McFarland, in Bloomfield, and passed away on May 24, 1999, at the Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva, at the age of 80 years, 1 month and 27 days. She was one of eight children in the family. Dorothy married Earl Sherman on Sept 11, 1937. They farmed near new Castle. They moved to Ponca, in 1944, where Dorothy devoted her time to raising the kids, and being a good mother. They also owned and operated a movie theater until 1950. At that time they moved to Albion where Earl worked in his own carpenter shop, and operated another movie theater. In 1956, they moved to Geneva after buying the Coast to Coast Store. Dorothy began working in 1963, as a cottage parent at the Girls’ School. In 1964, she began working at the hospital as a nurse’s aide. She enjoyed her work there so much, that she pursued a career as a practical nurse, graduating from Kearney nurses School in 1971. She worked as head nurse in long Term Care, Fillmore County Hospital until 1984, when she retired. She loved painting, sewing and craftwork. She did numerous soft sculptures, chicken puppets and paintings. She was very kind and loving, and was a wonderful mother to her children. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; sister, Opal M. Shannon; brother, Burt McFarland; and two infant sisters. She is survived by her five children, Arlan Sherman and wife , Carolyn, LaDonna and husband Gary Krause, Connie and husband, Stanley Tatro, Tom Sherman and wife, Sue, Nina and husband, John Westfall; three sisters, Ellen Driver, Alda Jones, Cleo Wenke; brothers, Ray and Tom McFarland; thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. She loved the Lord and prayed that all her children would share her faith. She will be missed greatly by all her family and friends. Funeral services were conducted from the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Geneva, on Thursday, May 27, 1999, with Rev. Wanda Bennett officiating. Nancy Cradduck accompanied Delwin Myers who sang “How Great Thou Art” and “His Eye is on the Sparrow.” Casket bearers were her grandsons, James, Shawn, Dayle, Steven, and Donald Sherman; Jason and Don Tatro; and Tyler Wilkins. Interment was in the Geneva Public Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal June 2nd, 1999 page 9.
