Sherman was born April 4, 1948, in Ponca, to Earl and Dorothy (McFarland) Sherman. He passed away July 5, 2017, at Lancaster Manor in Lincoln. In 1956, his family moved to Geneva, where his parents owned and managed the Coast-to-Coast hardware store. Tom was a natural born athlete and excelled in all sports. He did not like school and his grades prevented him from participating in high school sports. He left school and enlisted in the Navy until his tour of duty ended in 1969. Shortly after, he met and married Sue Hendrickson. Thomas held various positions working for the City of Crete, the Department of Corrections in Lincoln, the mall in Grand Island where he was Santa Claus for a couple of seasons and M C Industries in Geneva until a back injury forced him into retirement. Thomas was a happy-go-lucky type of guy. He was likable and friendly and loved his family. He fought a long hard battle with diabetes and lost both of his legs. He handled the loss of his first leg like a trooper and escaped from hospice care and was able to return home to his loyal wife for a few months. He lost the battle after his second leg was amputated. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Arlan Sherman; and great-nephew, Jake Martin. Left to mourn are his dedicated wife of 48 years, Sue; sons, Dayle (Tany), Steve (Tina) and Don Sherman; grandchildren Jarret, McKenna, Trey and Alicia; sisters, LaDonna Krause, Connie Tatro and Nina Westfall. A memorial was held July 10 in Lincoln. Burial will be at a later date. The Nebraska Signal July 19, 2017 page 4A col.5
