Read More	April 8, 1917 ~ January 17, 2015 Dorothy M. Holland, 97, of Wenatchee, WA, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2015, with her three children by her side. She was a proud lifetime Wenatchee resident, where she was born to Florence and Leon Brown on April 8, 1917. Her life in the valley included attendance at Whitman and Sunnyslope schools, before moving to Dryden, where she graduated from high school in 1936. Following graduation, Dorothy moved to Seattle, where she attended Wilson Business College and developed skills she would later use as a bookkeeper for the family business. Upon her return to Wenatchee, Dorothy met Robert W. “Bob” Holland and they were married on February 9, 1940. At the time of Bob’s passing in 2012, they had enjoyed 72 years of married life. As a wife and mother of three, Dorothy proved to be a consummate homemaker. She served as room mother, den mother, Cub Scout and Bluebird leader, and organized school carnival fund-raisers. She excelled in sewing and knitting, fashioning coats, prom and bridesmaids dresses, baby outfits and curtains. Her cooking skills were second to none. From decorative cakes and cinnamon rolls to large family dinners, Dorothy left a legacy of fond memories and cherished recipes. Dorothy’s Christmas fudge was eagerly anticipated by employees at the family business and, even this year, she did not disappoint them. Together, Dorothy and her husband, Bob, purchased Holland Machine Inc. (formerly the E.T. Pybus Machine Shop) in 1964. Even after her retirement as bookkeeper, she remained an active presence at “the shop” for many years. Highlights of Dorothy’s life included many trips to her son, Mike’s cabin at Lake Chelan; a 1990 visit to daughter, Marcia and family in Bangkok, Thailand; and a visit to the Hawaiian Islands with daughter, Linda and family. Dorothy was a lifetime member of the Wenatchee Chapter of Soroptimist International, and a member of Topaz Women’s Club. Family was paramount in Dorothy’s life. Daily, hour-long chats and family visits kept Dorothy happy and involved to the end. With a keen mind and flawless memory, Dorothy could provide a missing detail or correct a younger family member on family history or current events. Dorothy is survived by daughter, Linda (William) Moore of Gilroy, CA; son, Michael Holland (Kathleen Waslenko) of Wenatchee; daughter, Marcia (Keith) Flagler of Palm Springs, CA; her grandchildren, Lajette England, Reagan Maechling, Ellie Coen, Brent Coen, Lucas Flagler, and Kael Holland; and great-grandchildren, Morgan and Will England, Emme Tucker, Cade Maechling, and Zimora and Lennox Coen. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband; parents; siblings, Lois Harris and Richard Brown; and daughter-in-law, Bettie Jo “B.J.” Holland. Dorothy was greatly loved and will be forever missed by her family. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Central Washington Hospital for their excellent care during her recent, brief stay. Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 23, 2015, at Jones & Jones~Betts Memorial Chapel in Wenatchee, with Interment following at Wenatchee City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 22, 2015, at Jones & Jones~Betts Funeral Home. Memorials may be made in Dorothy’s memory to Central Washington Hospital.
