Dorothy M. (Kolbe) Bettin was born on August 27, 1911, at her parents home in Sac County, Iowa. She was the daughter of William and Katherine (Meyer) Kolbe of Lake View, Iowa. Dorothy graduated from Lake View High School in 1929. Following graduation she went on to continue her education at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa. On February 23, 1939, Dorothy was united in marriage to Ralph E. Bettin, at Ralph's brother Lloyd fathers-in-law home, in Melbourne, Iowa. To this union one daughter, Melba and one son, Edward were born. Prior to their marriage, Dorothy taught at the country school in her parents farm neighborhood. Dorothy lost her hearing when she was 28 years old, but was a wonderful mother and housewife the rest of her life. She enjoyed writing about memories of the past and had a couple of her writings published in the Sioux City Journal. Dorothy was able to live in her home in Early until 1998 when she suffered a stroke that left her paralyzed on her right side. It was at this time she moved to the Methodist Manor in Storm Lake. She had spent her whole life serving others so it was hard for her to accept having to have others serve her every need. She is survived by her son Edward and his wife Jan of Paullina, Iowa; eight grandchildren. David and his wife, Angie Boyd of Earlham, Iowa, Julie and her husband Brad Anderson of Schaller, Iowa, Chad Bettin of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Dan Bettin of Denver, Colorado, Roger and Steven Bettin of Paullina, Iowa, Lenny Puhrmann of Sioux City, Iowa and Jeanna and her husband Darin Click of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa. She is also survived by ten great grandchildren, Katie, Rachel, and Grant Anderson, Nikki and Jamie Boyd, Breah and Cole Bettin , Logan, Brady, and Bryce Click; brother-in-law, Glen Bettin of Hartley, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph; daughter and son-in-law, Melba and Jim Boyd; three sisters, Mae Weitzel, Anna Marlow, and Edna Lange; and two brothers, Glen and George Kolbe. Dorothy is now with the Lord in her new transformed Immortal body, enjoying the sounds of heaven. For there will not be a deaf person on Hallelujah Square.
