Burial was in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery, Odebolt, Iowa. She was baptised on June 18, 1916, at Pleasant Hill Church, Lake View, Ia. Mae graduated from Lake View High School in 1925 and attended Morningide College. She taught in a rural school until her marriage to Albert Weitzel on Dec. 19, 1929. They had 5 children, Elaine, Eleanor, Phillip, Kay, and Eugene. She was a Sunday School teacher for many years and a member of the ladies aid. She was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church in Early, plus several community clubs and activities. She and Albert lived on the same farm for 62 years after their marriage. Survivors include two daughters: Elaine and her husband LaDon Thayer of Odebolt, Iowa; Kay and her husband, Allen Olson of Nemaha; two sons, Phillip and his wife Janelle of Newell; and Eugene and his wife Sandra of Early, Iowa. Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Albert, and daugher Eleanor in infancy; also her sisters Edna Lange and Anna Marlow. Mae had 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; a sister Dorothy Bettin of Early; two brothers, Glen Kolbe of Lake View and George Kolbe of Lake View, Iowa. Mae wrote Mae's Musings since 1975 for the Early News, ;and later for The Chronicle. She loved family, nature, and all aspects of life. She never tired of cooking a meal for family or extra help, hoeing in her garden, canning or freezing the produce of her garden, making pickles, or any worthwhile project to help someone or something. She was a willing volunteer for many church and community projects.
