The daughter of Thomas Henry Abbott and Barbara Freml Abbott, Dorothy was baptized and confirmed at St. Ann's Catholic church at Vail, Iowa, and received her early education in the country school there, graduating from St. Ann's Academy in 1932. Read More	Dorothy Hansen Feb. 1, 1915-Feb. 15, 2006 Dorothy Mabel Hansen of Denison, formerly of Charter Oak, was born February 1, 1915, at Vail, Iowa, and passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2006, at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of ninety-one. The daughter of Thomas Henry Abbott and Barbara Freml Abbott, Dorothy was baptized and confirmed at St. Ann's Catholic church at Vail, Iowa, and received her early education in the country school there, graduating from St. Ann's Academy in 1932. That same year, she moved with her parents, to Charter Oak where she did housework for area families. On October 9, 1933, Dorothy was united in marriage to Harold Hansen of Charter Oak, by Reverend Arndorfer at St. Boniface Catholic Church. After farming several years, they moved into Charter Oak where Dorothy helped with running a TV and Electrical repair shop. Later they spent several years in Minnesota before going to California to be near their family, returning to Charter Oak when Harold's health began to decline. Harold passed away in 1995 and Dorothy moved to an apartment in Denison. Dorothy loved little children and babysitting. She also enjoyed crocheting, crafts, crosswords and playing cards at the senior center. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harold, her daughter, Joanne, her son, John, five brothers and three sisters. Survivors include one son, James and his wife, Barbara of Columbia, Tennessee; one sister, Donna Creese of Denison; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, and eight step-great-grandchildren, four sisters-in-law, Eldene Abbott of Denison; Elizabeth Abbott Motes of Longmont, Colorado; Ethel Abbott Clark of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Francis Abbott of Westboro, Missouri. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 A.M., February 20, 2006, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Charter Oak, Iowa. Fr. Donald Slaven officiated the service and grave side rites held at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery in Charter Oak. EveVonne Muff provided the service music. Those serving as pallbearers were: Gary Neddermeyer, Dean Bechen, Kevin Abbott, Ron Wellner, Bill Aldag and Bill Creese. A Legion of Mary Rosary was held at 4:00 P.M. and a Vigil Service at 7:00 P.M. The family invited everyone in attendance, at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Altar Society.
