There will be visitation Friday from 5:00-7:00 pm at the funeral home. Dorothy Mae Becker, daughter of William F. and Rose M. (Eggert) Becker was born January 14, 1931 on the family homestead northwest of Rogers, ND, and was the youngest of four children. In 1948, she graduated from Rogers High School, then two years later she graduated from State Teachers College in Valley City, ND. Shortly after graduation, she moved to Ashley, ND where she taught third grade for a few years before her marriage. She was united in marriage to Milton M. Schauer on June 14, 1953 in Zion Lutheran Church in Valley City, ND. Dorothy and Milton made their home in Ashley where they raised eight children, Michael, Susan, Donna, Bradley, Kenneth, Rodney, Judy and Diann. She loved to be involved in her children’s many activities as they grew up. After a 20-year hiatus from teaching to raise her family, Dorothy became a teacher’s assistant in Ashley where she finally retired from teaching 20 years later. She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ashley and Ashley Women’s Club. In her final years, she lived at Lakeside Village in Panora, IA. She loved being near her daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren where she enjoyed watching them grow. She was a volunteer at their school. She enjoyed making new friends and playing bingo and dominoes with them all. Throughout her life, Dorothy enjoyed gardening, reading, bird watching, golf, and watching Lawrence Welk and Polka Party on television. She also liked to quilt, do jigsaw puzzles, and visit with friends and family. Dorothy is survived by three sons, Michael (Rose) Schauer of Ellendale, ND, Ken (Carol) Schauer of Littleton, CO and Rod (Sheri) Schauer of Plano, TX; four daughters, Susan (Steve) Carpenter of Grand Forks, ND, Donna Schauer of Des Moines, IA, Judy (Rudy) Aguilar of Harvard, IL, and Diann (Nick Mulindwa) Schauer of Miami, FL; 11 grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Milton (8-25-2007), son, Bradley, grandson, Matthew Schauer, two sisters, Gladys and Rozella and brother, Lawrence Becker.
