The Burlington HawkEye 8-19-02 Dorothy Blanchard Dorothy Brown Blanchard, 66, of Oquawka, Ill., died at 4:35 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, 2002, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born April 10, 1936, in New London, she was the daughter of Joe and Ida Willey Brown. On Jan. 17, 1960, she married Gene Blanchard in Burlington. Mrs. Blanchard was a teacher for 42 years. She taught elementary school in Mediapolis, Davenport and Danville. She retired in 1998 after teaching kindergarten in Danville for 35 years. She was a graduate of New London High School. She graduated from Graceland College in Lamoni and Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant. She enjoyed working in her yard, her flowers and collecting antiques. Survivors include her husband, Gene Blanchard of Oquawka; two adopted granddaughters, Season Rippenkroeger of Clinton and Chelsea Rippenkroeger of Oquawka; two sisters, Joan (Ralph) Septer of New London and Mary (Duane) Moore of Burlington; four brothers, Dan (Florence) Brown of Mount Hamill, Don (Anna) Brown of Mount Pleasant, Daryl (Cynthia) Brown of Burlington and Bill (Jan) Brown of New London; and 21 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. Visitation will begin after 2 p.m. Tuesday at King-Lynk Funeral Home in Fort Madison, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Blanchard will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at King-Lynk Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Simpson officiating. Burial will be in Brooks Cemetery in New London. A memorial has been established for her granddaughters' education and can be left at the King-Lynk Funeral Home in Fort Madison or sent to the family's home at P.O. Box 935, Oquawka, IL 61469.
