The family will greet friends from 3:-5:00 pm Sunday, April 17th at Miller Funeral Home. Read More	Dorothy May (Huse) Deters, Sioux Falls, died April 13, 2011, peacefully at her home surrounded by her 3 children. Dorothy "Dotty" May (Huse) Deters, daughter of Phil & Iva Huse, was born on March 11, 1933 in her grandparent's home in Hartford SD. She attended Hartford Elementary & High School, graduating from High School as Valedictorian of the Class of 1951. She was active in 4H club, band, and a majorette. Dotty was first employed at the Addressograph Office for 1 1/2 years and then the Crippled Children's Hospital and School for 6 1/2 years in Sioux Falls. Dotty met, fell in love and then married Ralph J. Deters on Jan. 14, 1961 at St. Joseph's Cathedral in Sioux Falls, S.D. After marrying Ralph she became a full time homemaker and mother. Through the years Dotty lead a well rounded, full life. She enjoyed writing poetry and stories, she was self appointed family historian and wrote a biography poem of John C. Schlieman. She was an active member at St. Joseph's Cathedral. She was a past member of Cathedral Club and a member of Catholic Daughters of America for 44 years. She was the first one to bring latergical dance into Cathedral. She held membership with the Girl Scouts of America for 30 years where she volunteered as an advisor, leader, committee member, council trainer and supporter just to name a few of the positions she held. She influenced many young lives and saw 12 of her Scouts achieve the highest award of First Class Scout. She helped to form the former Civic Ballet Association and was a member of Washington Pavilion, as she was a huge follower of the theater and dance. Dotty was an avid fan of Neil Diamond and would proudly brag about seeing him in concert 6 times. Later in life she got lots of joy from her gardening. Dotty and Ralph had three children; MaDonna (Rayce) Whiting of Sioux Falls, SD, Kenneth (Cindy) Deters of Luverne, MN, Ramona Deters of Indianapolis, IN. Also grateful for sharing her life were her grandchildren, Jason (Emily) Whiting, Ed (Jen) Whiting, Tyrel (Tara) Whiting, Nolan (Jaime) Whiting, Nick Jansons, Cassandra (Dustin) Donth, Kiara (Ryan) Heikes and great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Morgan, Kyler, Kamryn, Rayce, Trinity, Addisyn, Lando, Cade, Jayden, Hayden, Lillian, Taryn, Brendan, Henry, Jett, Phinley, Taneal, and soon to be Peter. Siblings Theresa (Don) Miller, Rosie Burke, Larry Huse, LaVonne Guentert, Rick (Pam) Huse. She was Preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Deters; her parents, Phillip and Iva Huse, and her two brother in-laws Dan Guentert and Bob Burke. Memorials may be directed to Avera McKennan Hospice & Palliative Care. The family of Dotty thanks you for your support and presence today.
