Description	:	Ralph Deters, age, 77, of Luverne, Minn., died Friday, May 16, 2008 at the Luverne, Minn., Sanford Hospice Cottage. Ralph Joseph Deters, son of Frank H. and Barbara M. (Holzman) Deters was born on a farm south of Salem, S.D., on April 1, 1931. He ran the family farm until 1959, at which time he moved to Sioux Falls. Ralph served eight years in various branches of the... Read More	Ralph Deters, age, 77, of Luverne, Minn., died Friday, May 16, 2008 at the Luverne, Minn., Sanford Hospice Cottage. Ralph Joseph Deters, son of Frank H. and Barbara M. (Holzman) Deters was born on a farm south of Salem, S.D., on April 1, 1931. He ran the family farm until 1959, at which time he moved to Sioux Falls. He worked for two years for Bill Bruns Construction. In March 1961, he started work for Tri-State Transportation which was bought by Hyman Freightways from which he retired after 32 years of service. Ralph served eight years in various branches of the military. On Jan. 14, 1961, he married Dorothy M. Huse at St. Joseph's Cathedral in Sioux Falls, S.D. He was active in his parish, St. Joseph Cathedral, as an usher, an assistant chef for the parish dinners, and various other activities. He was also a lifetime member in the Knights of Columbus. He was an active member of the community through 28 years with the Girl Scouts, helped to form the former Civic Ballet Association and was a member of the Washington Pavilion. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, of 47 years, Dorothy; children, MaDonna (Rayce) Whiting of Sioux Falls, Kenneth (Cindy) Deters, of Luverne, Minn., Ramona Deters, Norfolk, Va.; grandchildren, Jason (Emily), Edward (Jennifer) Tyrel (Sarah), Nolan (Jaime), Nicholas (Kristy), Cassandra (Dustin), and Kiara (Ryan); great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Morgan, Kyler, Kamryn, Rayce, Trinity, Addisyn, Lando, Cade, Jayden, Hayden, and soon to be Lillian. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, Frank H. and Barbara M. Deters; his brothers, Joe, Al and Francis Deters; a sister, Rosemary Brewer; four sisters-in-law, Frances, Tia, Erlena, and Hilda Deters; a nephew Leo Deters, and a special uncle, Bill Deters. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 p.m. today (Tuesday) at St. George Catholic Church in Hartford, S.D., with interment following at St. George Catholic Cemetery. Visitation was after 3 p.m. Monday at Miller Funeral Home, 13th & Main Ave. in Sioux Falls, with the family present to greet friends at 5 p.m. and a wake service at 6 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Sanford Hospice Cottage in Luverne, or to St. George Catholic Church Building Fund.
