Dorothy Mary Schaefer, daughter of Anna (Karst) and Michael Schaefer, was born June 27, 1924 at her parent’s farm north of Hoven. She was raised on the farm, attended Swan Creek grade school, and graduated from Hoven High School in 1944. She attended Rosary College, a Catholic women’s college in River Forest, Illinois. Dorothy married Jerome Klocker at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Hoven on June 24, 1946 with Father Helmbrecht, celebrant. They resided in Hoven where Dorothy kept busy raising her family of 4 sons and 1 daughter. Jerome died July 3, 1984 and Dorothy continued living in Hoven and in March 2009 she moved into the Holy Infant Hospital. Since the hospital’s closing in October 2010, Dorothy lived at the Aberdeen Health and Rehab Center. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, St. Anthony’s Altar Society, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Her hobbies included gardening, cooking, reading, and entertaining friends. Dorothy and Jerome traveled extensively, and they spent many winters at their town house in Tempe, AZ. Together they enjoyed entertaining family and friends who visited them in Arizona a well as at their cabin on Swan Lake. Dorothy and Jerome will both be warmly remembered for their keen sense of humor. Dorothy is survived by three sons: Terry (Donna) Klocker of Gettysburg, SD, Timothy (Judy) Klocker of Rapid City, SD, and Toby (Kay) Klocker of Hoven; one daughter Tami (David) Hawkinson of Lenexa, KS; one sister: Merici Rader of Hoven; 13 Grandchildren and 15 Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father on July 27,1992, her mother on May 26, 1995, her husband, one son (Tom), two brothers (Alfred & Wilbert Schaefer), one sister (Esther Morse), and 2 infant great grandsons. Urn bearer will be Dorothy’s Godson, Jim Rader, of Papillion, NE. Honorary bearers will be the staffs of Holy Infant Hospital and Aberdeen Health and Rehab.
