She passed from this life Saturday, July 5, 2008 at the Osceola Nursing & Rehab Center in Osceola, Iowa at 79 years of age. Dorothy graduated from Murray High School in 1947. She passed from this life Saturday, July 5, 2008 at the Osceola Nursing & Rehab Center in Osceola, Iowa at 79 years of age. Dorothy graduated from Murray High School in 1947. She taught in country school for one year. She was united in marriage to Charles McVey on February 23, 1948 at Corning, Iowa. They lived a short time in Osceola and Indianola before moving to the Southside of Des Moines in 1954 where they lived until 1990 when they moved to Humeston. they returned to Osceola in 1992. Dorothy worked as a seamstress for Great Plaines and then Commercial Bag Company, where she worked for 20 years. She worked as a cook for Osceola Nursing & Rehab Center for 13 years until the age of 76 when she retired. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading and playing cribbage. She loved to take trips to Las Vegas and would watch many sports on TV, not really having a favorite team, she just enjoyed watching. She was the family historian. She knew everyone's birthday on both sides of the family, remembering everyone's names and who they were married to and their kid's names. This was not easy when you remember that she had nine brothers and sisters and Charles has 10 brothers and sisters. Those relatives who preceded Dorothy in death were her parents, and all of her nine brothers and sisters, Howard, Orville, Russell, Gerald and Harold Howe, Grace Brown, Bernice Burchett, Thelma Page and Vera Louise Howe. She leaves to cherish her memory husband, Charles; son, Randal McVey and wife Chris of Lawton, OK; daughter, Sharon Bennett and husband Gary of Knoxville, IA; son, Kendal McVey and wife Catherine of Chicago, IL; daughter, Linda Kinney and husband Jim of West Des Moines, IA; twelve grandchildren, Tony, Terri, Robbie, Troy, Tasha, Thomas, Kelsey, Sean, Sarah, Trina, Anna and Michael; 14 great grandchildren; Molly, Hollie, Jimmie, Tony Jr., Cassady, Billy, Sierra, Sydney, Race, Madison, Denver, Duncan, Mason and Evvan; 2 great great grandchildren, Dominique and Hunter as well as other relatives and many friends.
