Dorothy was born May 28, 1924, the daughter of Merle and Dee (Cook) Cave in Marcus. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery at Sioux City, Iowa. Read More	Dorothy Rose Gabel, 80, of Marcus, Iowa, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, at Heartland Care Center in Marcus. Dorothy was born May 28, 1924, the daughter of Merle and Dee (Cook) Cave in Marcus. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery at Sioux City, Iowa. Services were 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Grace United Methodist Church in Marcus, with the Rev. Gary McDonough officiating. She attended rural school through the eighth grade at Amherst No. 4. She then attended Marcus High School until 1939, when illness prevented her from continuing classes. Dorothy was hospitalized in Rochester, Minn., for three months with a bone disease. During her lengthy recovery at home with her parents, a two-way communication system was installed to allow Dorothy to complete her education. She graduated from Marcus High School in 1943, one year later than her classmates. She then attended business school in Sioux City and spent the next 20 years working at various office jobs. Dorothy married Roy J. Gabel on April 6, 1947, in Marcus. After their marriage, they lived in Sioux City until Roy suffered a fatal heart attack on April 24, 1963. Their only child, Rosemary, was born in July of 1963. Dorothy then returned to Marcus to make her home and operated a consignment business for 25 years until her retirement in 1995. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, U.M.W. and was a former Sunday school teacher. Dorothy's hobbies included sewing, reading and genealogy. Survivors include a daughter, Rosemary Rueter and her husband, Paul of Marcus; a grandson, Tyler; two sisters, Lucille Bishop of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Grace Holtgrewe of Le Mars, Iowa; two brothers and their wives, Jim Lorraine Cave of Marcus and Glenn and Delores Cave of Cherokee, Iowa. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother; and a sister.
