Dorothy was born on Jan. 1, 1923, in Billings, to Joseph and Angela (Bruno) Ponessa. Dorothy attended school in Bighorn and graduated from Custer High School in 1941. Read More	Dorothy Rose (Ponessa) Moerkerke, 91, of Billings, passed away on Aug. 7, 2014, with her family by her side. Dorothy was born on Jan. 1, 1923, in Billings, to Joseph and Angela (Bruno) Ponessa. Dorothy attended school in Bighorn and graduated from Custer High School in 1941. She then attended Billings Business College, graduating in 1942. Dorothy married Frank Arthur Moerkerke on June 27, 1946, in Custer. The couple moved to Billings, where Dorothy worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture for more than 15 years. One of her biggest highlights was spending time with her grandchildren, attending all of their activities. Dorothy and Frank were avid members of the Big Sky Polka Club, participating in numerous dances and accordion jamborees over the years. Dorothy enjoyed watching the Polka Club on TV when she could no longer attend. Dorothy leaves behind her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Doug Voeller; grandson, Justin, and granddaughter, Niki, all of Billings; and sister, Rosie Grammens. She was preceded in death by Frank, her husband of 63 years; infant son, Michael; her parents; and siblings, Sam and Joe Ponessa and Mary McCormick. Visitation will begin 1 p.m. Sunday, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary. A rosary will be held in her honor at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 10 at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary. The Funeral Mass will be Monday, Aug. 11 at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church. Rite of Committal will follow at Yellowstone Valley Memorial Park. The family would like to extend a special thank you to St. Johns Transitional Care for their support and kindness. Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary is in charge of arrangements and remembrances may be left for the family at www.michelottisawyers.com.
