She passed away Friday, December 11, 1998, at Haven Manor in Lincoln, Nebraska, at the age of 76 years, 11 months and 4 days. She was baptized in the Methodist Church in Nelson and was a member of the Hebron Methodist Church at the time of her death. Dorothy graduated from Nelson High School in 1939. July 5, 1942, in Mankato, Kansas, Dorothy married Herbert Ray. This union was blessed with six children. Together they lived in Wichita, Kansas, Nelson, York and Hebron, Nebraska. She was a member of the Highland Homemakers Club, Fairview Extension Club, a 4-H leader, and a member of the Nelson and Hebron Methodist Church Circles. Dorothy enjoyed crafts, sewing and gardening. Dorothy was employed by Higgins Studio in York and Hebron and the Avon Corporation. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Herbert, on December 30, 1980; and two infant sisters, Helen Joan and Carolyn Jean. Survivors include two sons, Harlan Ray and his wife Mary of Lusby, Maryland, and James Ray and his wife Nancy of Lincoln, Nebraska; four daughters, Bonnie Splitter and Carol Joan Peterson, both of Kearney, Nebraska, Barbara Siverts and her husband Gary of St. Louis, Missouri, and Deborah Sharp and her husband Robert of Illinois; 10 grandchildren and six great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Monday, December 14, 1998, at 2 p.m., at Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel in Superior, Nebraska, with Rev. Warren Schoming officiating. Music was "In The Garden" and "Softly and Tenderly" with Alfred and Janell Hanson as vocalists and Carlita Price as organist and accompanist. Interment was in Nelson Cemetery. Pallbearers were John Ray, Milan Ray, Kenneth Boswell, Tom Yilk, David Holthaus and Larry Ray. Honorary pallbearer was Ivan Schafer.
