Description	:	Herbert Ensley Ray, the eldest son of three children, was born to Clifford and Edna Tumbleson Ray at Clatonia, Neb., May 2, 1916. He died unexpectedly at his home in Hebron Dec. 31. While still an infant he and his parents moved to Nuckolls County, Nebraska. He was baptized in the Methodist faith at Nelson and later became a member of this church, remaining faithful to his church. Read More	Herbert Ensley Ray, the eldest son of three children, was born to Clifford and Edna Tumbleson Ray at Clatonia, Neb., May 2, 1916. He died unexpectedly at his home in Hebron Dec. 31. While still an infant he and his parents moved to Nuckolls County, Nebraska. He was baptized in the Methodist faith at Nelson and later became a member of this church, remaining faithful to his church. His membership was transferred with him when he moved to York in 1968 and later transferred to Hebron in 1974. Ray attended rural elementary schools in the area and graduated from Nelson High School. After his graduation he became a steward of the land as a farmer and later continued his stewardship in the field of soil conservation. He also educated his children in the agricultural field by being a 4-H leader. July 5, 1941, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Marie Sorenson at Mankato. Six children were born to this marriage. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Darrell Ray. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy; two sons, Harlan Ray, Clay Center, Kan., and James Ray, Sioux City, Iowa; four daughters, Mrs. Monty Splitter (Bonnie) of Kearney, Mrs. Lee Petersen (Joan) of Nelson, Mrs. Steve Radcliff (Barbara) of Lincoln and Mrs. Norbert Wenger (Deborah), Topeka; brother, Bryce Ray, Superior; 11 grandchildren; and other relatives. Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 3, at the United Methodist Church, Nelson, with Rev. Fred Richart officiating. Interment was in the Nelson Cemetery.
