Description	:	Dorsey Owen Van Kirk Brunswick, Neb. DNS – Dorsey Owen Van Kirk, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Van Kirk, was born Oct. 5, 1906, on a farm south of Brunswick , and died May 14 at Pocatello, Idaho, at the age of 45 years, 7 months and 9 days. He was reared in the Brunswick community. In 1924 the family moved to Norfolk where he and a brother, Russell, were graduated from High School in 1925. DNS – Dorsey Owen Van Kirk, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Van Kirk, was born Oct. 5, 1906, on a farm south of Brunswick , and died May 14 at Pocatello, Idaho, at the age of 45 years, 7 months and 9 days. He was reared in the Brunswick community. In 1924 the family moved to Norfolk where he and a brother, Russell, were graduated from High School in 1925. Dorsey Van Kirk spent several years as an automobile salesman and then entered the insurance business. He entered the Army June 21, 1943, and served two years in the South Pacific area during World War II. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Floyd Miller of Norfolk and Mrs. Arthur C. Darrow of Spencer, Ia., three brothers, Archie of Norfolk, Wilfred of Plainview and Russell of Omaha. His parents preceded him in death. Funeral services were held May 20 at the Brunswick Congregational Church with the Rev. Clarence Hanscom officiating. Military rites were conducted by Verner A. Baird Post 357 of the American Legion. Warren Reigle, sergeant-at-arms, was in charge. Color-bearers were Arnold Wahrer and Tony Kemmel. Color guards were Ace Acklie and Frank Kemmel. Members of the firing squad, commanded by Warren Reigle, were Harry Smith, Kyle Smith, Arlo Baird, Wayne Andersen, Stanley Snodgrass and Donald Johnson. Miss Dorothy North sounded "Taps." The flag which draped the casket was presented to Mr. Van Kirk's sister, Mrs. Floyd Miller of Norfolk. Burial was in the Brunswick Cemetery. Attending the rites from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. Archie Van Kirk and Mrs. John Weigert, Norfolk; Mr. and Mrs. Morgan Calkins, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Van Kirk and Mrs. Richard Bordson, Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. Waldo Andersen, Council Bluffs, Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Harrington, Columbus; Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Scott and son, Robert, Tilden; Mr. and Mrs. James Van Kirk and Mrs. Alfred Brodersen, Neligh; Mr. and Mrs. William Hollendick, Bloomfield; Mr. and Mrs. D. Van Deveer, Creighton; Mr. and Mrs. James Van Kirk Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Van Kirk and Mrs. James Van Kirk Sr., Plainview; Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Van Kirk, Madison, and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Miller and Mrs. William Miller, Orchard. ...Obituary provided by a family member
