After his retirement from the telephone... Read More	Douglas Dale Staehr, age 65 of Stromsburg, Nebraska was taken to his heavenly home Monday, July 20th, 2009. He was born on January 11, 1944 to Alfred and Grace (Dey) Staehr in York, NE. Doug was a 1963 York High School graduate and then attended Kearney State College, until being drafted into the United States Army in 1965. He served for two years as a Medic. Following his honorable service, Douglas was hired by the telephone company. He worked in York, David City, and Stromsburg as a telephone lineman and repairman for 38 years. After his retirement from the telephone company, he worked as a security guard at several businesses in York and the surrounding area. Douglas was an active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York. He occupied his free time with hunting, fishing, coaching and umpiring ball games, and playing cards. On August 28th, 1965 he was married to Vicki Klone in York. Douglas is survived by his wife Vicki of Stromsburg; one daughter Wendi Svehla of Holdrege, NE; two sons: Curt Staehr of Columbus, NE and Blake and his wife Kristi Staehr of Orlando, FL; and four grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers: Robert Staehr of Utica, NE, Gerald (Marilyn) Staehr of York, David Staehr of Overland Park, KS, Keith (Cynthe) Staehr of Kimball, NE, and Gene (Sandi) Staehr of York; three sisters: Dolores (Richard) Bartholomew of Seward, NE, Joyce (Denny) Riekenberg of Hordville, NE, and Mary (Scott) Chew of Salinas, CA. Also surviving are brother-in-law Glenn Rathje and sisters-in-law JoeAnne Staehr and CloeAnne Staehr all of York; brother and sister-in-law Gary and Amber Klone of Clinton, IA, and foster daughter Amy Boutdy of York. Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers: Dennis and Ronald Staehr, two sisters: Donna Jean Rathje and Elaine Staehr, in-laws Wes and Marguerite Klone, and one foster daughter Stephanie Kuhl. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 24, 2009 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York with the Reverends Tim Marshall and Mike Neidow officiating. Military graveside services will follow at Vernon Cemetery, southeast of York. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials may be directed to Lutheran Hour, Emmanuel Lutheran Church, or Emmanuel Lutheran School. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 1-9 p.m. and on Thursday from 9-9 with family greeting friends on Thursday evening from 6-7 pm at the mortuary.
