Description	:	TIPTON, Iowa -- Douglas Max Phelps, of 1224 13th Street NW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died January 23, 2008, at St. Luke's Medical Center after complications from Parkinson. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. today at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Tipton Masonic Cemetery. A memorial has been established. He was born May 4, 1943, in Iowa City, to Max R. Phelps and Ruby I. Fulwider Phelps. He married Karen Rismiller in 1962 in Ames, Iowa. He was a district sales representtative for Purina, Nutrena and later for Golden Sun Feed. He was a graduate of Iowa State University and a member of Tipton United Methodist Church. Doug was a faithful Iowa State Cyclones fan and helped recruit football players in the early 1970s. He was an avid supporter of Tipton Tigers' sports and was inducted into their Track and Field Hall of Fame for his many years of volunteer work at their meets. He also helped with cross county meets. The Tipton football team named him their Most Loyal Fan, and he was Grand Marshall for the Homecoming Parade. He was well-known around Tipton as a truly nice guy. Survivors include one son, Jeff Phelps (Stephanie), Cedar Rapids; one daughter, Thea (Pat) O'Grady, Lincoln, Neb.; one brother, Kerry Phelps (Kit), of Tipton; and grandchildren, Emily, Claire and Ryan. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Karen, and later by his second wife, Della. Quad-City Times, January 24, 2008
