Description	:	Doug Schrag, son of Ada and Paul Schrag, was born on April 4, 1947 in Freeman, S.D. On April 1, 2008, Doug was called to his heavenly home after several years of ongoing heart complications. He graduated from Freeman Academy in 1965. He married his high school sweetheart, Candace, on June 16, 1967. Their union was blessed with two children. After they were married, they moved to Evansville, Ill., where he completed his voluntary service for a year and a half. Read More	Doug Schrag, son of Ada and Paul Schrag, was born on April 4, 1947 in Freeman, S.D. On April 1, 2008, Doug was called to his heavenly home after several years of ongoing heart complications. He graduated from Freeman Academy in 1965. He married his high school sweetheart, Candace, on June 16, 1967. Their union was blessed with two children. After they were married, they moved to Evansville, Ill., where he completed his voluntary service for a year and a half. They then returned to the family farm where he continued the family business of raising purebred Shorthorn cattle. Doug served on the Marion Lumber Yard Board and the Rosefield Township Board for several years. He was honored to have served two terms on the American Shorthorn Association in 1988. He loved the Shorthorn breed and cherished the friends he made while attending cattle shows and sales across the nation. One of Doug's favorite pastimes was meticulously preparing the farm for the annual cattle sale. The greatest joy of his life was spending time with his family and especially watching his grandchildren fish, dance and show Shorthorns. Doug was often seen at local sporting events cheering on the Bears, Flyers and Bobcats. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Candace; his daughter Tammy and her husband Dan Benjamin and their children Ashlyn and Tyce, Freeman; his son Cory and wife Melissa and their children Samantha and Jaxon, Freeman; his mother and father Ada and Paul Schrag, Freeman; his sisters: Judy Rechnagel, Freeman and Mary and husband Jim Tecklenburg, Harrisburg, S.D.; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. Doug was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Ben and Mildred Schrag; and his brother-in-law, Don Rechnagel. The funeral was held Friday, April 4 at the Salem-Zion Mennonite Church with Rev. Eric Deckert officiating and Ruby Waltner as organist. Special music was provided by Butch and Judy Facemire. Pallbearers were Mike Rechangel, Paul Korn, Troy Tecklenburg, Jamie Tecklenburg, Terry Thaden and Kent Jaecke. Honorary pallbearer was Cory Altena. Interment was at Salem-Zion Mennonite Church Cemetery.
