Description	:	Paul J. Schrag, 99, was called to his heavenly home on April 20, 2009 at Oakview Terrace in Freeman, S.D. He was born Dec. 23, 1909, to Rev. John JA and Katie (Miller) Schrag in Newton, Kan. He was baptized at Salem-Zion Mennonite Church in rural Freeman on July 26, 1925. Schrag, 99, was called to his heavenly home on April 20, 2009 at Oakview Terrace in Freeman, S.D. He was born Dec. 23, 1909, to Rev. John JA and Katie (Miller) Schrag in Newton, Kan. He was baptized at Salem-Zion Mennonite Church in rural Freeman on July 26, 1925. The church was a very important part of his life where he served as a faithful member. He graduated from Marion High School in 1930. After graduating from Freeman Junior College, where he received his teaching degree, he taught in rural schools for several years. He enjoyed teaching and made many friends. Paul married Ada Gering on May 27, 1943. They shared 65 loving years together. This union was blessed with three children, Judy, Doug and Mary. Father enjoyed farming with mother and raising shorthorn cattle with his son Doug. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought great joy to his life. Fishing trips with family and friends were special to him. He was a loyal Marion Bears fan and was seen at many local basketball games. He was an avid Minnesota Twins fan and also enjoyed spending time at the senior citizens center. Father influenced many lives throughout his lifetime with his kind, gentle spirit and strong faith. He will be missed and lovingly remembered by his daughters: Judy Rechnagel and Mary (Jim) Tecklenburg; daughter-in-law Candace Schrag; grandchildren: Michelle (Paul) Korn, Michael (Jennifer) Rechnagel, Tammy (Dan) Benjamin, Cory (Melissa) Schrag, Troy (Susie) Tecklenburg, Jamie (Stacey) Tecklenburg and Brandi (Terry) Thaden; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers: Felix, Oswald (Orpha), Delbert (Stella), Allen (Ardelle) and Calvin. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Ada; son Doug, son-in-law Don Rechnagel; brother Silas; and sisters: Edna Glanzer and Emma Graber. The funeral was held Friday, April 24 at the Salem-Zion Mennonite Church with Rev. Eric Deckert officiating and Ruby Waltner as organist. Special music was by LeRoy Epp with Mavis Ortman as pianist. A tribute was given by Paul's brother Delbert. Pallbearers were Paul Korn, Michael Rechnagel, Cory Schrag, Dan Benjamin, Troy Tecklenburg, Jamie Tecklenburg and Terry Thaden.
