Description	:	Douglas Scott Holmes is the son of Douglas Millard Holmes and Constance Marie "Connie" Look. SOUTHWEST HARBOR - Douglas S. Holmes lost his gallant struggle with an extended illness April 25, 2010, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Jan. 21, 1965, in Machias, the only beloved son to Douglas and Connie Look Holmes. His nurturing spirit was... Read More	Douglas Scott Holmes is the son of Douglas Millard Holmes and Constance Marie "Connie" Look. SOUTHWEST HARBOR - Douglas S. Holmes lost his gallant struggle with an extended illness April 25, 2010, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Jan. 21, 1965, in Machias, the only beloved son to Douglas and Connie Look Holmes. When he was delivered, Dr. MacBride said, "You finally have your little Douglas." Doug was an amazing man with a keen sense of humor; a smooth talker; a totally selfless polite, generous and sensitive gentleman who touched many lives on his journey home. His nurturing spirit was often over-looked because he quietly went about God's work and was not boastful; an angel flying to close to the ground. He was a longtime friend of Bill W. Doug, and graduated from Winthrop High School and Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute with a degree in law enforcement. During his lifetime he was a member of Abundant Life Church, Bangor, the SAL, American Legion, Post No. 9, Machias. He was employed in various positions including the Maine State Legislature and the state energy office. He was a consummate chef, famous for his omelets and scalloped potatoes, and a "pretty fair carpenter." He spent his entire adult life helping others, especially his mother, while selflessly neglecting himself. His favorite spot in the world was Cathance Lake, at the "family compound," where he loved to entertain and fish. He is survived by his father, Douglas M. Holmes; stepmother, Susan of Falmouth; his mother, Constance Holmes of Cooper and Southwest Harbor; sisters, Kellie Tomer and Jackie Lee Holmes of Rockwood; a nephew, Gabriel, whom he loved as his own son; several aunts, including his special aunt, Sharon; uncles, cousins; his eternal soul mate, Theresa; close and special friends, Bob, Ken-Dog, Kevin, Steve Dorsey and L.B., a.k.a The Great Gatsby. He was predeceased by his baby nephew, Austin Lewis; and special friend, Jon. A celebration of Doug's life will be held 1 p.m. May 22 at Machias Savings Bank Community Room, at the corner of Cooper and Main streets, Machias. A graveside service will be held at a later date at Look Private Cemetery, Holmes Bay.
