Read More	March 20, 1929 - Carroll Times - This community was shocked yesterday when it became known that Dr. Alois Kessler had died suddenly shortly after 1 o'clock the same afternoon. Death was attributed to heart trouble from which Dr. Kessler had been suffering for some time. While Dr. Kessler had not been in the best of health for several years he was at his office every day up until Thursday when he had another slight attack. His condition was not considered at all serious, however, and yesterday morning he was able to be up and about the house for a time. During the latter part of the morning he had a spell of sickness but his wife did not become alarmed as he had had previous attacks more severe and had always rallied from them. Shortly after dinner he was again stricken and he breathed his last about 1:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, March 19. Several weeks ago Dr. Kessler fractured several of the bones in his right wrist which pained him considerable. He did not give up his duties, however, and each day he could be seen at his office prepared to alleviate the ills and pains of his patients. Dr. Kessler was one of the best known physicians in this part of the state. Following his graduation in 1888 he came to Carroll and began the practice of medicine and had been actively engaged in that profession since. Forty years as a practicing physician Dr. Kessler has left an impress of service to humanity in this community that time cannot efface. Highly educated along academic lines as well as in medicine Dr. Kessler was one of the outstanding men of this city and community for a number of years. Honest to a fault, fair in all his dealings with everyone, to be numbered among Dr. Kessler's friends was indeed an honor. The memory of his kindly deeds and sound advice will long be remembered by everyone. Dr. Kessler served this community conscientiously, ever mindful of the trust reposed in him. To professional men of Dr. Kessler's ability who performed their services to humanity, sacrificing comfort and even health in all kinds of weather at all hours of the day or night, and when but a few physicians served a large territory, to those men humanity owes a debt of gratitude which can never be reckoned in dollars and cents. In addition to his professional duty, Dr. Kessler served as coroner of Carroll county for a number of years. He was also mayor of Carroll for one term, serving in 1914-1915. Alois Kessler was born at Solon, Ia., April 22, 1858. He lived in various places with his parents and received his early education in the common schools. He early showed an inclination for educational pursuits and graduated from the Iowa City academy in 1882. He received an A.B. degree from the Iowa State university in 1886. Having decided to devote his time to the practice of medicine he entered College of Medicine at Louiville, KY and graduated from that institution with, a degree of M.D. in 1888. He began the practice of medicine in this city immediately following his graduation and continued without interruption until death came. Professionally he was identified with the Carroll County Medical society, the Iowa State Medical society, and the American Medical society. On October 9, 1889, Dr. Kessler was united in marriage to Miss Barbara Bauer who survives him. Three sons, Carl, practicing dentistry at Rock Valley, Ardan of Akron, also a dentist, and Leo of Carroll, and one daughter, Lillian, who teaches school in Sioux City, also survive. He leaves two brothers, Joe. Kessler living at Winner, S.D., and Anthony Kessler of Lewis, Ia. Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 9:30 o'clock at the St. Lawrence church, of which he was a devout member.
