Description	:	Charles came to Humboldt County with his parents at age 6. He learned mechanical ability from his father at an early age. After being educated in the public schools in Eureka he entered Phelps Academy and then Cooper Medical School in San Francisco, from which he received the M. D. degree in 1897. He served as Humboldt County physician for four years, one year as county health officer and two on the Eureka city board of health. He served as Humboldt County physician for four years, one year as county health officer and two on the Eureka city board of health. He was instrumental in securing the passage of ordinances requiring the inspection of food at every level, from slaughter houses to restaurants and hotels. He designed a unique ventilation system for Northern California Hospital. He was a member of the American College of Surgeons, the state and county medical associations and a charter member of the Eureka B. P. O. E.
