Description	:	Dr. Clifford Bowman, 93, of LeMars IA, formerly of Sioux City IA, died Friday, May 28, 1999, in Clarinda IA. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Augustana Lutheran Church in Sioux City. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Bethesda Cemetery, Bethesda IA. Visitation will be prior to the graveside services at the cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Walker-Merrick Funeral Home in Clarinda. Dr. Bowman was born Dec 11, 1903, in Tracy MN, the son of John Albert and Josephina Matilda (Palmquist) Bowman. He graduated from Clarinda IA High School and Augustana College in Rock Island IL. He received his Masters degree and PhD. from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. He married LaVerne Louise Engstrom on December 25, 1936, in Bethesda. He was a teacher, principal and superintendent at What Cheer IA. He was a professor of history at Morningside College from 1945 until retiring in 1970. He was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church in Sioux City, where he was active in church organization. Survivors include a son and his wife, John and Karen of Fountain Hills, AZ, a daughter and her husband Gwen and John Hart of LeMars, five grandchildren, a great-grandchild, and a sister-in-law, Virginia Engstrom of Clarinda. He was preceded in death by his wife, two brothers, and a sister.
