His Graceland career began during his time as a student at Graceland in 1926-29 as a pre-med major. Doctor Elmo GAMET decided to pursue his interest in the medical field and served as Graceland physician from 1939 until 1974 and as the Yellowjacket football team physician from 1970 until his retirement in 1980. "Doc" GAMET and his wife, Bernice, have two children: James and Onalee. Dr. Elmo GAMET was inducted into Graceland University Yellowjacket Athletic Hall of Fame in 1993. GAMET, M.D., passed away September 21, 2005 at Prospect Park Living Center in Estes Park, Colorado. He recently celebrated his 95th birthday at PPLC with family and friends. Dr. GAMET was surrounded by family at the time of his passing. Elmo was born in Hot Springs, South Dakota on September 14, 1910 to Asenath and Eugene GAMET. He grew up in Pisgah, Iowa, attended Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa, and medical school at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. Dr. GAMET was the general practitioner and surgeon in rural Lamoni for 40 years. He served as the County Medical Examiner, and was a member of the Iowa State Board of Health. He was a Major with the Army's 56th Medical Battalion during World War II, serving in North Africa and Europe, and was awarded the Bronze Star. Dr. GAMET was inducted into Graceland University's Hall of Fame in 1993.] He and his wife, Bernice, lived in Sahuarita and Tucson, Arizona for 25 years, after retiring from his medical practice. There, they celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary. In 2003, Elmo was one of the first residents to move into the Good Samaritan Village in Estes Park, CO. He is preceded in death by his wife T. Bernice (CHASE) GAMET and survived by his sister Doras BECKER and her husband Willard of Independence, MO; daughter Onalee GREEN and her husband Ken of South Carolina; son Jim GAMET and his wife June of Estes Park; six grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
