Description	:	She attended Fullerton Public School, graduating in 1959 as Valedictorian. She was the Cornhusker Rural Public Power District Beauty Queen and was very active in school organizations. After high school she was a Magna Cum Laude graduate from the College of St. Mary in Omaha, graduating with a bachelor's degree in English. In 1964-66 she was awarded the Graduate Teaching Scholarship in the department of English by Creighton University of Omaha. In 1964-66 she was awarded the Graduate Teaching Scholarship in the department of English by Creighton University of Omaha. She also taught at North High School in Omaha while serving as a research associate and continuing her education at UNL, where she earned a doctorate in American literature from UNL In 1976. In 1964 she married George Baca in Omaha and to this union one daughter was born. They later divorced. Emily joined the Central Community College-Columbus staff on August 15, 1978 as an English instructor, the position she held until her death. In 1977 her bibliography, A Handlist of Nebraska Authors was published by the Nebraska Department of Education. She also had articles printed in Nebraskaland, A River and Its People and articles in The Journal of American Culture; edited The Salt Creek Reader with poet Ted Koozer; was on the staff of The Saltilo, which prints Nebraska poetry and critical articles about literature; and served as co-chairman of the Nebraska Writing and Storytelling Festival. Her poetry was featured in the Nebraska English Journal: Poetry of Nebraska. She also had served on the committee for the Nebraska Literature Festival. In 1985 she was selected as the College Representative to the American Association of University Women. In 1992 she was the compiler and manager of a data base of Nebraska authors and their published works. Organizations providing funding were the Nebraska Humanities Council and CCC Foundation. In 1995 an original speech on writing by Dr. Emily Uzendoski, English instructor, was published in "Writing it Down for James: Writers on Life and Craft" by Beacon Press. In 1998 she and Vincent Lempke, a mathematics instructor shared the Platte Campus APPLE Award. The award stands for "Accomplished Platte Professor and Leader for Excellence". She was also a longtime faculty sponsor for the Hilltop Review, an annual literary magazine published at Central Community College. She was a visionary for a grant proposal and wrote the proposal that was accepted for the National Endowment for Humanities for CCC of Columbus, Legacy and Landmarks of Plains Native American. She also was a member of the Humanities Cluster at Platte Technical Community College, and a past member of Columbus Library Discussion Group 222 Book Club and Friends of the Library. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include one daughter, Michele Uzendoski of Columbus; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dr. Don and Linda Uzendoski of Omaha, and Mick and Ann Uzendoski of Rose-mount, MN; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Natalie and Bob Sobraske of Schuyler, and Virginia Uzendoski of Lincoln; 10 nieces and nephews.
