Ernest Ross (Ernie) Ebbinghouse was born in Wabash on April 4, 1917, to Paul and Esther Ebbinghouse. A lifelong resident of Wabash, he graduated from Wabash High School in 1935. Following graduation from Indiana University in 1941, he entered dental school. A 1943 graduate of the Indiana School of Dentistry, Dr. Ebbinghouse was commissioned a United States Naval Officer. Ernest Ross (Ernie) Ebbinghouse was born in Wabash on April 4, 1917, to Paul and Esther Ebbinghouse. A lifelong resident of Wabash, he graduated from Wabash High School in 1935. Following graduation from Indiana University in 1941, he entered dental school. A 1943 graduate of the Indiana School of Dentistry, Dr. Ebbinghouse was commissioned a United States Naval Officer. Ernie served as a dental officer in the U.S Navy during World War II with the 91st Seabee Battalion in the Philippines. He also completed tours at Great Lakes Naval Training Center and Crane Naval Ammunition Depot. After separation from the Navy, Dr. Ebbinghouse married Marian Irene Ebbinghouse in 1945 and returned to Wabash to practice general dentistry. Retiring in 1987, Ernie had practiced for 42 years. He and Mary, who passed away in 1996, had three children: Jane (Bob) Wildman of Indianapolis, Tim Ebbinghouse, of Peachtree City Ga., and Patty (Kevin) Martin of Indianapolis. He is also survived by six grandchildren. Ernie was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Elks Club and a charter member of the Wabash Country Club. Ernie considered himself an avid golfer and average gin rummy player. Family and friends will gather at the Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel, 740 East 86th St., Indianapolis, on Tuesday Jan, 24, 2012 from 4-8 pm. Another gathering will be held on Saturday, Jan. 28, from 2-5 pm at the Wabash Elks Lodge No. 471, 225 W. Main St., Wabash. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either: Wabash County Hospital, Inc., 710 N. East Street, Wabash, IN 46992, or Wabash County United Fund, 73 W. Canal St., Wabash, IN 46992. Died at age 94 years, 9 months, 16 days.
