Description	:	DR. E. B. STERLING BURIED TUESDAY Graveside services were held here at 11:00 o'clock Tuesday morning for Dr. E. Blanche Sterling, who died Saturday at the home of her niece, Mrs. Harold Sanford Hill, in Quebec, Canada. Dr. Sterling was 85 years of age. Burial was in the Crisfield Cemetery. The services were conducted by the Rev. Walter A. Donoway, pastor of Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church. She was the daughter of the late George Reilly Sterling and Margaret Ward Sterling, natives of Crisfield, who lived in Baltimore for a number of years. Blanche Sterling, who died Saturday at the home of her niece, Mrs. Harold Sanford Hill, in Quebec, Canada. Dr. Sterling was 85 years of age. Burial was in the Crisfield Cemetery. The services were conducted by the Rev. Walter A. Donoway, pastor of Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church. She was the daughter of the late George Reilly Sterling and Margaret Ward Sterling, natives of Crisfield, who lived in Baltimore for a number of years. Dr. Sterling was one of Baltimore's first practicing physicians. She was a graduate of the old Baltimore Medical College, and following post-graduate studies at the Boston Medical College, and teaching at Wellesley College, she became associated with Johns Hopkins Hospital as an orthopedic specialist. She established an extensive practice in Baltimore before taking the post of assistant surgeon in the United States Public Health Service in Washington. Dr. Sterling had had an interesting career. She was known as a specialist in Indian affairs, and published many medical papers on the bone structure of Indian children, based on her countrywide study of Indian conditions for the Government. During the 1930's Dr. Sterling represented the Public Health Service at international medical conferences in Europe and South America. As her parents had been, she was much interested in charitable work, and was a member of a number of charitable organizations. She retired when she was 55 years of age. Dr. Sterling was a life-long member of the Protestant Episcopal Cathedral, a member of the English Speaking Union, the Baltimore League of Women Voters, the Wellesley Alumnae Association of Baltimore, and a number of medical groups. Surviving her are two nephews, James W. Sterling of Baltimore and T. K. Nelson Sterling of Coral Gables, Fla.; three nieces, Mrs. Virgil Young of Baltimore, Mrs. Grace K. Sterling of Towson, and Mrs. Harold Sanford Hill of Quebec, Canada. Mrs. Cassie Stevenson of this city is a cousin. The Crisfield Times, Crisfield, Maryland, Friday, November 22, 1957, p. 10
