Description	:	Dr. Frederick E. Vance, aged 88, a longtime resident and physician for over 50 years, died at the Van Dyke Nursing home in Ottumwa Sunday morning, May 29, 1951 at 9:25 o'clock. He was the son of Samuel and Rebecca Vance, and was born July 6, 1862 on a farm north of Eddyville near Pekay. He studied medicine at Rush Medical college in Chicago and was graduated from there in 1887. Vance, aged 88, a longtime resident and physician for over 50 years, died at the Van Dyke Nursing home in Ottumwa Sunday morning, May 29, 1951 at 9:25 o'clock. He was the son of Samuel and Rebecca Vance, and was born July 6, 1862 on a farm north of Eddyville near Pekay. He studied medicine at Rush Medical college in Chicago and was graduated from there in 1887. Shortly after he began to practice in the community [Feb. 20, 1887] for over 55 years and each year one of his chief pleasures was going back to attend the Alumni meeting. For many years [he] was the surgeon for the Rock Island railroad. He was a member of the Des Moines Valley Medical association, Iowa State Medical and American Medical association. He was married to Della M. Caldwell in 1896. Mrs. Vance died in August, 1931. For ten years he had been in the Van Dyke Nursing home. His only survivor is a daughter, Miss Esther Vance, Colorado Springs, Colo., was here to visit her father at the time of his death. The doctor had been in failing health for years but his death came unexpectedly. Funeral services were held from the cooperative Funeral home Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. Clarence W. Hanscom, pastor of the Ottumwa First Congregational church officiating. Burial was made in Highland Cemetery.
