Read More	Gene Panning Friday, May 08, 2009 - 11:09:51 am CDT Dr. Gene G. Panning, 76, of Kearney died Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at Good Samaritan Hospital. He was born Aug. 8, 1932, in Scribner to Gilbert and Loretta (Nast) Panning. He grew up in Hooper. He was a graduate of Hooper High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954-56. He married Alberta Lundahl on June 20, 1956, in Wakefield. He received his bachelor of fine arts from Wayne State College, master's of science in education at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, Wis., and his doctor of education at the University of Northern Colorado at Greeley, Colo. He was superintendent of schools at Ogallala, Marquette and Chappell Public Schools. He was a member of First Lutheran in Kearney, Golden K Kiwanis and numerous other professional organizations. Survivors include: his wife, Alberta of Kearney; a son, Mark of Omaha; daughters, Ann Day (and husband, Steve) of Madrid and Susan Weston (and husband, Michael) of Omaha; grandchildren, Jill and Ben Pelster, Jennifer, Julie and Jessica Day and Madeline and Samuel Weston; great-grandchildren, Sydney and Reagan Pelster; and a sister, Marlene Moseman (and husband, Marlyn) of Hooper. Other survivors include sister-in-law, Marilyn (and husband, Dr. Ronald) Dutton of Estes Park, Colo. He was preceded in death by his parents. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church in Kearney with the Revs. Eric Lesher and Roy Rasmussen officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at O'Brien-Straatmann Funeral Home in Kearney. Burial will be 4 p.m. Monday in Hooper Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to First Lutheran Church in Kearney.
