He was ordained to the Christian ministry in 1964. He earned his bachelor of theology at Homes Theological Seminary, his doctor of humane letters at Kingsway Theological Seminary, and his doctor of divinity at Universal Bible Institute. Read More	The Republican Dec 29, 2005 GEORGE McDOWELL SR. Dr. George McDowell Sr., 88, Nashville, Tenn., died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005. He was a son of the late Thomas and Eva Mc-Dowell. He was ordained to the Christian ministry in 1964. He earned his bachelor of theology at Homes Theological Seminary, his doctor of humane letters at Kingsway Theological Seminary, and his doctor of divinity at Universal Bible Institute. While at Holmes, he ran the city rescue mission, helping serve the city's homeless. In the Tri-towns, he was active in Scouting, served as the director of the Joy of Living choir, and pastored at Abundant Joy Chapel. He founded Zion Christian College and Seminary, Grantsville, and served as its president for 25 years, training over 150 young people in the ministry. He also chaired the ministry outreach committee. In Nashville, he sat on the ministry board of Declaration Ministries. He was a member of the East Nashville Church of God of Prophecy. He was also a veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theater. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, one son, two sisters, one brother, three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Friday, Dec. 30, from 7 to 9 p.m., and Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. A service will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Marvin Cline officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Panama Mission Fund, care of East Nashville COGOP.
