He is survived by one son; one sister; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.∼Donald Henry McDowell [Bloomington] Cumberland Times-News BLOOMINGTON - Donald Henry McDowell, 88, formerly of 167 North St., Bloomington, and most recently of Lions Center Nursing Home, Cumberland, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009 at WMHS-Braddock Campus with his loving family at his side. Born Sept. 14, 1920 in Keyser, W.Va., he was the son of the late Thomas and Eva (Warnick) McDowell. His wife, Helen (Herman) McDowell; two sisters, Eleanor Arnold and Eva "Murph" Rosier; and a brother, George McDowell, also preceded him in death. Mr. McDowell was retired from Westvaco Corp. with 45 years of service, having worked in the 6 & 7 calendar room. He was an extremely faithful Christian and a member of Bloomington United Methodist Church. Don was the last surviving charter member of the Bloomington Fire Department. He was a friend of nature and an avid fisherman and in his earlier years an avid hunter. He always had a passion for wanting to invent and patent good ideas. A loving father and grandfather, he leaves behind a son, a sister, Cumberland; four grandchildren, He is also survived by seven great grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home chapel on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Donald Nelson officiating. Interment will be in Philos Cemetery, Westernport. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to Bloomington United Methodist Church, Bloomington, MD 21523.
