Description	:	Son of Rev. Edward and Lucy (Palmer) Root. During the Civil War he enlisted as a Private in Company G, 19th Michigan Infantry serving from August 12 to November 18, 1862. Weeping Water Republican, January 11, 1906: "Dr. Henry D. Root died at the home of his son at Wood River, Nebr., last Saturday morning, aged 63 years. During the Civil War he enlisted as a Private in Company G, 19th Michigan Infantry serving from August 12 to November 18, 1862. Weeping Water Republican, January 11, 1906: "Dr. Henry D. Root died at the home of his son at Wood River, Nebr., last Saturday morning, aged 63 years. Dr. Root was a former resident of Cass county, living at Greenwood, and was a son of rev. Root, a Baptist minister, who was well known here in former years. He was also a brother of Mrs. W. W. Carter, of this city. The body was brought from Wood River to Lincoln where funeral services were held in the Free Will Baptist church on Sunday afternoon. He was then brought to Weeping Water on the midnight train, and on Tuesday morning short services were held at the house, conducted by the Rev. Phillip H. Smith assisted by the Rev. Keysor. Interment was then made in Oakwood cemetery, he being laid to rest beside his wife who died seven years ago. Those present and attending the funeral from a distance were: Dr. B. A. Root and his wife, Frank Root and Mrs. Faught, of Wood River, Frank Root, of Wichita, Kansas, and A. R. Root and J. W. Edmunds, of Murray, Neb. Mrs. Jeffers, of Shenandoah, Iowa was unable to be present on account of illness." Dr. Root had also served in the Nebraska State Legislature.
