EUBANKS, PROMINENT PHYSICIAN, PASSES AWAY For Years He Practiced Medicine in Lanes Creek Township and Was a Man of Much Influence. Nearly fifteen hundred people attended the funeral of Dr. J. B. Eubanks, who died Saturday morning at his home 12 miles east of here in Lanes Creek township, Sunday afternoon. The services were conducted by Rev. M. D. L. Preslar at the home of the deceased. Union Baptist church, where the remains were interred, is about a mile and a half from the residence of the deceased, and the funeral procession was so large that it reached from the home to the church. The deceased was a Mason, and was buried with the honors of the order, the Knights Templar, in full uniform, acting as an escort. Many beautiful floral designs showed the esteem and respect of the county for the deceased. Dr. Eubanks had been ill only a week with pneumonia when the end came. Monroe people learned of his illness only a few hours before his death, and there was universal regret here as well as throughout the entire section in which Dr. Eubanks lived and practiced medicine. The deceased was a son of the late Thomas C. Eubanks, who was a member of the legislature for a number of terms, and Nancy Eubanks, whose maiden name was Arant. He was born in Buford township December 31, 1861, and was therefore 56 years old when the grim reaper overtook him. He read medicine under the late W. C. Ramsey of Monroe and attended Jefferson Medical college in Philadelphia for a time and later entered Vanderbilt University in Nashville, where he took a medical course and graduated in this course in 1890. After graduating he came back to his native county and located in Lanes Creek township where he built up a fine practice. The sense of loss at his death experienced by the people of his community, and throughout the entire county for that matter, is testimony to the esteem in which he was held. He often ministered to the poor knowing that he would never receive pay for it but this did not deter him from giving them his best attention. In December, 1892, he was married to Miss Lola (sic) Tucker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Tucker of Lanes Creek township, who survives him. Besides his wife, he is survived by his mother and his brothers, Messrs. W. A. Eubanks, T. C. Eubanks, and A. M. Eubanks of Buford township, J. V. Eubanks, of Washington, D. F. Eubanks of Monroe, and H. M. Eubanks of Laurinburg. Besides practicing medicine, Dr. Eubanks engaged in farming, and any one looking over his farm can see that he was as good a farmer as a doctor. On his farm he erected a fine country home where he ad his wife delighted to entertain their friends. By the death of this good man, the county loses a "community builder," as he was a friend and booster of the school, the church, and contributed liberally to every worthy cause.
