Dr. Martin, a resident of 1722 N. Main St., was a native of Anderson County, a son of the late C. L. and Othello Ashley Martin. He was born January 9, 1902. He was a graduate of Lebanon High School, Furman University's class of 1922; and the 1926 class of the S.C. Medical College in Charleston. He interned in Greenville and had been in practice in Anderson since 1927. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and was a former deacon. He was a member of the Rotary Club and Barnette Masonic Lodge, as well as a number of medical associations. Dr. Martin married the former Miss Ellen Hunnicutt in 1928 and she survives him, along with one son, Dr. John W. Martin Jr. of Charleston; two brothers, Sloan P. Martin of Anderson and Charles Martin of Kershaw; two sisters, Miss Ruth Martin of the Lebanon community and Mrs. E. A. Orr of Anderson. Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Friday. Dr. Cort R. Flint and the Rev. E. Gray Jones will officiate. Burial will be in the Lebanon Baptist Church cemetery. Pallbearers: Dr. Sloan P. Martin, Jr., Dr. William B. Martin, Laurence Ashley, Alvin Smith, J. K. Grisso, Tom Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will consist of members of the Anderson County Medical Society, S.C. Medical Association and Bose Ethridge, Marshall Fant, Rufus Hill, and J.M. McLeod. The body is at Sullivan-King Mortuary and the family is at the residence.
