Rowan, 54, an optometrist, died at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Lyons District Hospital after a long illness. Born Nov. 22, 1917 at Washington Court House, Ohio, he moved to Lyons 23 years ago from Wichita. He was a veteran of World War II. He was a member and trustee of the American Optometrical Association, past president of the Lyons Optometrical Association, and a recent winner of the Optometrist of the Year in Kansas award. He also was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Rotary Club, Masonic Lodge, and American Legion, all of Lyons. He is survived by the widow, Mary; daughter, Mrs. S. D. Edwards, Wichita, Mrs. Joseph Kottas, Hays; brother, Dr. Morton P. Rowan, Kansas City; mother, Mrs. Louise Rowan, Wichita, and one grandson. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, at the church, Rev. Stanley Tyner. Call after 6 p.m. Friday and until 11 a.m. Saturday at the Porter and Sillin Funeral Home, Sterling. The family suggests memorials for kidney research.
