Description	:	PITTSBURG — Dr. Robert R. Noble, 87 of Pittsburg, joined his beloved wife, Leora, and entered rest on July 9, 2008. Dr. Noble was born on October 6, 1920 in Oakville, IA to Addie M. and Arther J. Noble. He began school in Oakville, IA and attended Yarmouth High School. He received his B.S. from Coe College, and then his Master's Degree and then his Doctorate Degree from the University of Nebraska. Noble, 87 of Pittsburg, joined his beloved wife, Leora, and entered rest on July 9, 2008. Dr. Noble was born on October 6, 1920 in Oakville, IA to Addie M. and Arther J. Noble. He began school in Oakville, IA and attended Yarmouth High School. He received his B.S. from Coe College, and then his Master's Degree and then his Doctorate Degree from the University of Nebraska. He enlisted in the Army Air Force in October 1942, was stationed at the Harvard Army Air Force Base in Nebraska, where he met his future wife of 60 years, Leora. He served in WWII in Guam and was responsible for the arrival and safety of the atomic bomb. He and Leora were married on March 17, 1946; he later accepted a professorship at Pittsburg State University. He taught there from 1950-1985. During and after that time, he was very involved with community programs. In 1960 he was chosen as a delegate for the White House Conference on Children and Youth. He also enjoyed directing educational field trips that included travel to New England, Hawaii, Canada, Mexico and Cuba. He was honored to be chosen as a Kansas Masters Teacher. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lions Club, American Legion, KNEA, American Red Cross, chairman and board member of Mother-to-Mother Ministry, board member of Wesley House and Crawford Mental Health Association, American Sociological Society, Kansas Council on Crime and Delinquency, Kansas Council on Children and Youth and the Governor's Coordinating Council. Survivors include a brother Thomas Noble of Clinton, IA; a daughter Karen Noble Knaup of Pittsburg, KS; grandchildren Anson Knaup, Brett Knaup, Shara Knaup; a son Kent Noble of Dodge City, KS; grandchildren Angie Noble Anderson, Ryan Noble, Mike Noble and great-grandchildren Landon Knaup and Jordan Anderson. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Leora Rath Noble, sisters Lela Todd, Betty Sharley and Mildred Curry; brothers Ernest Noble, Willie Noble, Richard Noble and Lloyd Noble. Parents Arther and Addie Lamb Noble and foster parents Andrew and Elizabeth Shaw. In recent years, he enjoyed following PSU sports and activities, his Cornerstone friends, neighbors, and the numerous visits, activities and holidays he always looked forward to spending time with his grandchildren. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday July 14 at the First United Methodist Church and Reverend James E. Akins and Sister Ann Meyer officiating. The soloist will be Kathryn Parke and the organist will be Susan Marchant. Active pallbearers will be Anson Knaup, Brett Knaup, Shara Knaup, Ryan Noble, Mike Noble and Karen Knaup. Honorary Pallbearer will be Angie Noble Anderson. Burial will follow in the Highland Park Cemetery with flag folding ceremonies by the Benjamin Fuller American Legion Post #64.. The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home 522 S. Broadway Pittsburg. Condolences can be sent to www.bathnaylor.com.
