He was born Dec. 8, 1913 in Atlanta, Ga., the son of the late Rufus C. and Medora (Askew) Morrow. Dr. Morrow grew up in Mexico where his parents ran an agricultural school. He was educated at Davidson College in North Carolina and received his medical degree at Duke University. BANNER ELK, N.C. -- Dr. Rufus Clegg Morrow Jr., 73 died Monday morning, Sept. 8, at the University of Texas Hospital in Galveston, Texas. He was born Dec. 8, 1913 in Atlanta, Ga., the son of the late Rufus C. and Medora (Askew) Morrow. Dr. Morrow grew up in Mexico where his parents ran an agricultural school. He was educated at Davidson College in North Carolina and received his medical degree at Duke University. He practiced medicine and surgery (ear, nose and throat) at the Medical Center Hospital in Burlington, Vt., from 1951 until 1968. During that period of time, he taught at the University of Vermont College of Medicine. He served as a rotating volunteer from 1960 to 1967 with Project Hope. In 1968 he joined, on a full-time basis, with Project Hope, along with his wife, and served overseas in Colombo, Sri Lanka, Cartagena, Colmbia, Kingston, Jamaica, and Laredo, Texas. He retired from Project Hope in 1978 and moved to Banner Elk, where he and his wife practiced medicine, specializing in allergies. Both received honorary degrees from St. Michale's College in 1975. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy J. (Jackson) Morrow, M.D., of Banner Elk; two sons and daughter-in-law, Dr. Paul L. and Emily Morrow of Shelburne, Vt., Dr. Robert C. and Ardythe Morrow of Galveston, Texas; two sisters, Catherine Norem of Mansfield, Ohio, and Polly Austin of Concord, Mass.; two grandchildren, Miss Nonie Morrow of Galveston, Texas, and Miss Lily Morrow of Shelburne, Vt.; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at a later date in Banner Elk. There will be no local visiting hours or funeral service. In liew of flowers, friends may make memorial contributions to the Chaplain's Fund, in care of the Rev.
