Description	:	Youngest son of 10 children of John H. and Anna (Powers) Carbee. His grandfather, Joel Carbee, was of Scotch-Irish descent and was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. His brother, William Carbee, was a Captain in Co. H, 24th Iowa Volunteers. Samuel married N. Delia Buck (daughter of Lyman Buck of Haverhill, NH) on 30 Sep 1885. They had no children. His preliminary education was received in common schools of his native town and at the seminary in Newbury, VT. His service in the U.S. Army commenced by enlisting on 22 Aug 1862 in Co. D, 12th NH Volunteers and from 25 Sep 1862 until 28 Oct 1863 he served on detached service as clerk in the commissary and medical departments, acting for awhile as hospital steward, then he was commission on 26 Oct 1863 as Assistant Surgeon of the 12th NH remaining in service until mustered out on 21 Jun 1865. After receiving his commission as assistant surgeon he was all the time with the regiment, except from May to December, 1864, when he was detailed for service at Point of Rocks Hospital, Virginia, and acted as chief executive officer most of that time. He was present at the battles of Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Wapping Heights, Swift Creek, Relay House, Drury 's Bluff, Cold Harbor, Siege of Petersburg and capture of Richmond. It has been said that he was the first Union surgeon to enter the city at that time. After being mustered out of the United States service, he engaged in the active practice of his profession at Haverhill, N. H. He was an active member of the White Mountain Medical Society, the New Hampshire Medical Society and the American Medical Association; also a member of Kane Lodge, No. 64, F. and A. M., Franklin Chapter, Omega Council, and Mount Horeb Commandery of Concord, N. H., and of Haverhill Grange, No. 212, and has held important positions in all these associations. He was one of the county commissioners of Grafton county from 1885 to 1889 and surgeon-general on the staff of Governor Busiel, 1895-96. Surgeon Carbee died at his home in Haverhill, January 31, 1900
