When the news came over the wires last Saturday morning that Dr. Beason had passed away every heart in this community was touched with the deepest sorrow. It was known that his condition was critical but his friends were hoping almost against hope and many fervent prayers went up to the throne of grace for his recovery. Dr. Beason ha d a severe attack of illness at Colfax last September. He rallied from this and was brought home by Mrs. Beason. He improved in health for a time and then begun to fail rapidly in strength and vitality . He and Mrs. Beason both realized that help must be obtained at once if his life was to be prolonged . He left for Chicago three weeks ago last Saturday accompanied by Mrs. Beason and his family physician , Dr. J. M. Brooks, to obtain the best medical and surgical skill. He was in the medical department of the Presbyterian hospital for a week under the care of the best physicians of Chicago. On Oct. 27 an operation was performed in the hospital for intestinal ulcer and infected gall bladder. Dr. Brooks was present when the operation was performed and Mrs Beason was in attendance . He rallied nicely from the operation and it was thought by the attending physicians that he would recover. Th e operation was difficult and dangerous and his constitution had been much weakened by the progress of the disease. Grave symptoms soon developed like the closing in of the shadows of a gray November day, an d last Friday evening Dr. Beason's gentle spirit took its flight to God who gave it. Toward the last, while he was yet conscious, he often prayed to the dear Heavenly Father he had served for grace and forgiveness. His last hours on earth were the key note of a devoted Christian life, were almost a constant prayer. Bidding, his devoted wife a fond goodbye he peacefully fell asleep. Silas Alonzo Beason was born in Greene county, Ohio March 16, I860. He was the eighth in a family of six sons and four daughters of Amasa and Phoebe Smith Beason. When he was five years of age his parents moved to Cass County , Iowa , where they lived three years. He lived in DeKalb county , Mo , five years and in Wyoming three years. He was also in Utah and Colorado for a short time and lived there years in Peru , Ind . He afterward s moved to Nodaway county , Mo., where he lived six years. His boyhood and youth were largely spent on the farm. Later he learned the carpenter's trade and became an efficient workman . On January 21, 1892, Dr. Beason was married to Miss May Lowry , daughter of Benjamin F . and Phoebe Shroyer Lowry, at Maryville , Mo. They lived in Maryville two years and then both entered the Western Dental College at Kansas City, Mo , where they spent two years, when they located in Newell, Iowa . After locating in Newell Mrs. Beason completed her course in Kansas City, graduating with high honors. Dr Reason completed his dental course at the Chicago College of Dental Surgery where he graduated with a record of which any student might well be proud. In June , 1897, Dr. and Mrs. Beason located in Newell for the practice of their profession. They soon built up a large practice here . Their skill as dentists was recognized not only in this community but in many neighboring towns, and their unvarying courtesy and kindness made their patients their loyal friends. During their residence here they have been very largely identified with the business and social life of Newell. Dr. Beason was an active member of the Methodist Church . He was also a valued member of Roya l Lodge No . 428, A. F. & A. M., of Newell Lodge N o. 232, I. O. O. F , and also of Mission Chapter No . 401, O. E . S He was an efficient member of the school board for a good many years and was highly esteemed by his associate members. While building up a lucrative dental practice with Mrs. Beason his time and strength were freely given to assist every worthy cause. As a business man, a church worker, the fraternal organizations, in the social communities which add so much to the pleasure of living , he occupied an enviable position among the people of this community . There are few who would be more deeply missed or more sincerely mourned in this community than Dr. Beason. Dr Beason leaves to mourn his loss his devoted wife, whose life has been inseparable from him since their marriage and his daughter Lucille, twelve years of age. ¬ The funeral was held at the M. E. Church . The pall bearers were Geo. M. Allee, F . G. Redlield, C. A. Collins, Geo . A. Herrick , E. P. Kruse an d W. Q. Burgett. The interment took place at the Newell Cemetery.∼BEASON S.A.
