Cole II was born in Thurman, Iowa, on 17 January, 1922, the second child of Dr. Harold Paul and Pearle Matilda Stephenson Cole, both deceased. He passed away at Balfour Retirement Community in Louisville Colorado on October 4th 2011. A sister, Winifred Elizabeth, died at birth in 1917, and younger brother, Dr. Hillary Paul Cole, died in 1978. Dr. Cole attended schools in Thurman and graduated in 1939. He was active in church, civic and school functions and received the American Legion Citizenship Award from the American Legion Post, Sidney, Iowa, upon graduation from Thurman High School. He has maintained membership in the Sidney, Iowa, American Legion Post since 1947. Dr. Cole entered the State University of Iowa in 1939, graduated 1942, and enlisted in the Navy in 1943. He served duty in the destroyer and amphibious services-during World War II. He returned to the University of Iowa in 1946 to become an Instructor in the Department of Zoology and complete a Master of Science Degree. Dr. Cole entered the College of Dentistry and was elected President of his class, was a member of the Student Union Board and Quadrangle Council, and was elected to Gamma Alpha and Sigma Xi, graduate Science Fraternities. He became an Assistant Professor of Prosthetics at the College of Dentistry on his graduation. In 1948 Dr. Cole was married to Margaret E. Moffitt, of Newton, Iowa, a graduate of the College of Nursing, University of Iowa. To this union was born a son, Theodore Clifton Cole III, a graduate of the College of Santa Fe, New Mexico, now residing in Denver, Colorado, a Computer Systems Analyst. While at the University of Iowa Dr. Cole transferred from the Naval to the USAF Reserves in Aerial Combat Intelligence during the Korean War and became a Captain in the USAF Dental Corps in 1957. He served as both Dental and Hospital Commanders in the United States, England, Germany and Viet Nam. He was assigned to the USAF Academy for seven years during which time he became Associate Professor of Physiology and Chief of the Honors Division in the Department of Life Sciences. He was a member of the American Dental Association, the American Dental Society of London, the Iowa and Colorado Dental Associations and was elected Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry. Following retirement from the USAF in 1978 Dr. Cole practiced dentistry in Boulder Colorado where he became a member of Rotary International, Kiwanis International, Knights of Columbus, and was active in his church. He is survived by his son, Theodore C. Cole III. Other survivors include his brother Dr. H. P. Cole's family, Dr. Suzanne Cole Freeman Hidore and family and Larry Cole and family. Visitation will be on Friday October 14, 2011 at 9:30 am at Sacred Heart of Mary Church in Boulder. Mass will Follow the visitation and start at 10:00 am. Interment will also be at the church cemetery following mass. *NOTE: There is another burial headstone for Dr. Cole in Boulder, CO., Which appears to be the actual place of burial! ***
