Description	:	Thomas Franklin Oates, a son of John F. and Elizabeth Oates, was born in the bounds of Pottsville, Arkansas on August 25th 1856. His parents had recently emigrated west from North Carolina. Thomas was educated at locals school and graduated from the University of Louisville, Kentucky in 1883. Here he received his medical degree. On May 8th 1884, Thomas married Miss Dora Harkey; with whom he had two known children: Nancy Jane "Nanie" (1885–1940) Ada (1886–1969) Thomas and Dora made their home in Mexia, Texas; where he had an large practice and for a time, President of Limestone Medical Association.
